We’re on a mission to get more young people and their families inspired and excited by the DofE, from the first moment they hear about us. We want to bring the DofE to life for them at the start of their journey — and make sure we’re reaching them on the platforms they use most today.
As part of this, we’ve created nine fantastic new films showing real participants at all levels telling their DofE stories.
Together with new welcome presentation templates, these are a ready-made toolkit to help Leaders inspire young people to start their DofE, welcome new participants, their parents and carers, and motivate current participants to continue to achieve.
DofE Managers told us that they’d like some support when recruiting and welcoming DofE participants, and their parents and carers — and they asked for more ‘plug and play’ materials for group presentations.
We want as many young people as possible to be able to do their DofE, but we don’t want that to mean more work for our Managers, Leaders and other volunteers.
We hope the new films and presentation templates will help give young people, parents and carers a flavour of what they’ll be doing for their DofE and get them excited about signing up and choosing their activities.
There are three types of film: two to help recruit and welcome young people — and one to explain to parents and carers what DofE programmes involve. There are Bronze, Silver and Gold versions of each film.
Among others, you’ll meet Bronze Award holder Carys and her proud dad, footballer and mentor Hussein who is working towards his Silver and Elle, who rowed, debated and lifeguarded her way to Gold.
As a DofE Leader, you can use them however and wherever you’d like to show what the DofE is all about, excite and engage potential participants and their parents, or encourage and motivate young people who are already involved or progressing to their next level.
The films and presentations will help you bring the DofE to life in assemblies or group meetings, while the shorter films are also perfect for spreading the word on social media.
If you don’t have access to the internet or a big screen at your DofE group meetings, that’s no problem. You can download the films directly and play them from your laptop or a computer — or send the YouTube links to participants so they can watch them in their own time.
The new films are just one part of some exciting new DofE content we’ll be launching in the coming months.
From 1 September 2019, we’ll be delivering an updated Welcome Pack direct to participants’ homes. You can read more about this here.
We’re also putting the finishing touches to our first-ever DofE app, which will be available to download free in the autumn. This will be a great way to keep young people connected to their DofE programme on the go, letting them plan and manage it via eDofE on their phone or other device.
We’ll be sharing lots more information about the app soon — so watch this space!
