Over 1,000 people walked, ran, and wheeled 120 miles for DofE
This March, over 1,000 people proudly took part in the Do it 4 Youth 120 Mile Challenge and raised an amazing £41,000 for the DofE charity. Thanks to the incredible fundraising efforts, we’re one step closer to our charity’s aim of reaching 1.6 million young people with the DofE by spring 2026.
We believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, but know that many can’t take part in a life-changing DofE due to financial constraints or the need for specialist support. With the money raised through this challenge, we can ensure more young people have access to the transformative benefits of the DofE, no matter their circumstances.
This challenge isn’t just about the miles, it’s about everyone’s journey and the difference we’re making together.

Sally found her stride, with determination to support young people keeping her going:
“This challenge seemed almost impossible at the beginning, but I was determined to push myself out of my comfort zone and complete it for the young people who live in today’s challenging world and really deserve our support. I have gained so much this March – not just from discovering the healing nature and beauty of our countryside, but also in feeling more confident and fit.”
Kea and Anais, two of our dedicated Youth Ambassadors, took on the challenge alongside Kea’s mum. Kea explains:
“I am so proud to have taken part and raised money for a charity that has given me, and so many young people, incredible opportunities. It’s been so helpful to get me out of the house and exercising, especially as I’m so busy with preparing for exams. I’ve loved encouraging my family to join me, it’s been a great opportunity for us to connect over a shared goal and take some time away from everything together.”

Eric’s dedication to the challenge was driven by his passion for The Hamlet, an organisation that supports young adults with additional needs to develop skills for the future, including through DofE.
“I participated in the Do it 4 Youth Challenge to raise money and support young people, like The Hamlet trainees, to get the specialist support they need to do their DofE.”
Rosie, a DofE mum, happily took on the challenge this March and says:
“I’ve loved every minute of it! My daughter is currently doing her Bronze DofE, and I’ve seen the positive impact it has on her. I’m happy to help raise money for young people who might not have the means to participate.”
Amelia, Ali and Vanessa signed up as a team and kept each other going during the challenge – even dressing Amelia’s dog in his very own Do it 4 Youth t-shirt!
“The 120 mile challenge has been amazing and such a rewarding way to support the DofE! Taking part has encouraged me to get outside more, explore new and longer walks in my area, and even get back on a bike after many years. It’s been fantastic for my wellbeing and has shown me just how much I can achieve when I set my mind to something!”

Svetlana was inspired by her son’s DofE experience to take on this challenge and help transform other young people’s lives:
“I have truly seen how important and invaluable the DofE experience is for our children. It allows them to experience independence, resilience and teamwork. DofE provides a solid start for their adult lives, and I am therefore very supportive and very keen on taking part in this amazing initiative. I’d like to thank The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity for organising it and giving a chance to the younger generation to boost their experiences and transform their lives.”
Thank you to everyone who took part and to all those that donated – you are truly making a difference. You can find out how to support DofE on our website. Or if you feel inspired to take on your own fundraising challenge, check out our fundraising events.
