One of the most important considerations for any DofE participant is footwear. From 1 January 2020, the DofE will be recommending a range of Hi-Tec boots for DofE expeditions.
The Hi-Tec expedition boots are all waterproof, and as DofE recommended kit are fit for purpose and value for money. There are a variety of fabric and leather boots, that are affordable and durable for all levels of expedition:
- Eurotrek Lite WP
- Eurotrek III WP
- Bandera II WP
- Bandera Lite WP
- Aysgarth WP
- Mount Lennox WP
These styles are widely available from all good nationwide outdoor retailers including the DofE Recommended Retailers of Expedition Kit – GO Outdoors, Blacks Outdoors, Millets, Ultimate Outdoors, and Tiso. All have suggested prices from £40- £60, and you can save at least a further 10% when using your DofE Card, meaning you can now get market-leading walking boots for less than £50!
For those adventuring further or looking for a higher performing boot, the DofE is recommending a further two models which are available for £90-100 in selected retailers:
- Ravine WP

More than half of participants said they had to buy boots for their expedition when surveyed by the DofE* and walking boots are the number one item that DofE participants and volunteers save on by using their DofE Card.
“By including the Hi-Tec range of boots on the Kit List our aim is to offer choice, value and availability for such a key piece of expedition kit,” says Peter Schooling, Commercial Director at the DofE. “We look forward to working closely with Hi-Tec to help to support participants and parents with a range of expedition boots to fit growing feet at affordable prices.’’
