Pod Volunteer – Marine Conservation in Thailand – Residential

Join Pod Volunteer to support a local team and contribute to integral conservation research and assist in protecting the reefs whilst living on the idyllic island of Koh Tao and exploring its world famous dive sites!

How can I help?

Through joining a local team and dive school, you can assist with dives to contribute towards vital marine conservation research around the island of Koh Tao.

Volunteers contribute a great deal to the ongoing research by gathering data that would otherwise be too difficult to collect. Each day is different but your role will often be inclusive of taking part in ecological monitoring surveys, helping out with the juvenile sea turtle nursery, removing invasive species, assisting with artificial reef installation and joining underwater and land clean ups. If you are new to diving, you will have the opportunity to gain your SSI Open Water and Advanced Adventurer certifications in a pretty spectacular setting! If you have a keen interest or experience in conservation, the team always welcome a new perspective to research.

When can I join?

Throughout the year for placements of 1 to 4 weeks.

Where will I be living?

You will be living on Koh Tao, a beautiful island located in the South East Gulf of Thailand. For accommodation, you will have your own room just a few minutes’ walk from the dive school – some rooms are owned by the dive schools and others are in neighbouring hotels. There is also the option of premium accommodation – these are located very close to the beach front next to the dive school and include A/C and hot water showers.

In your free time, you can enjoy the plethora of bars and restaurants on the island, giving you a good choice for eating and going out. There are also many activities you can get involved in such Muay Thai (kick-boxing), hiking, rock-climbing and Thai cooking.

Placement fee

Volunteer placements start from £875 for 1 week. This includes accommodation, induction and conservation training, all dives, conservation diver certification plus planning your trip support from the Pod team.
