Join Pod Volunteer to observe gentle giants in their natural forest habitat and assist the team in conducting elephant health checks!
How can I help?
You will spend half of your day assisting the mahouts in observing the elephants as they freely wander in the forest. You will also assist the local team with health checks for the elephants – both of these roles are vital in identifying any concerns regarding the elephants.
The other half of your day will be spent supporting the upkeep of the sanctuary and helping benefit the local community by working on jobs such as farming and construction. The efforts made in the local community assists the project in achieving its goal of discouraging further domestication of wild elephants by demonstrating the value of elephants living freely in the forest.
When can I join?
Any Saturday throughout the year for placements of 2 to 12 weeks.
Where will I be living?
You have the choice of either staying in a dorm which is simply furnished and based on site, sharing with 1 to 4 other volunteers, or you can opt for a bungalow accommodation. There are four secluded, self-contained bungalows available built in traditional Bunong style – you will have your own bedroom with a double bed. On Friday and Saturday nights volunteers stay at a guesthouse in Sen Monorom.
The project is based in the east of Cambodia in the Moldulkiri province, near the Vietnam border. Whilst at the project you will be located on site in the forest camp.
Placement fee
Volunteer placements start from £1245 for 2 weeks. This includes accommodation, all main meals, airport pick up and transfer to the project plus planning your trip support from the Pod team.
