The marine world is under threat from climate change, and this project is aiming to do its small bit to help. Scientists and volunteers dive each day to learn more about the health of the coral reef and to implement measures to maintain it.

Data is shared with international bodies and the Thai government to create sustainable policies. Slowly but surely, this is making a difference.

What’s it all about?

Each day you will be heading out to sea to complete at least one research and conservation dive. On this dive, you could be:

– doing fish surveys
– removing fishing lines and rubbish from the reefs
– monitoring water temperature
– collecting data on reef degradation
– helping to tend the artificial reefs
– conducting general scientific research

In the afternoons, you will be working in the lab to analyse your data or grow nubbins for the artificial reef.

When?

You can volunteer here for 2, 4, 6 or 8 weeks from January – November.

Accommodation and food

You will be living in a volunteer house in a rural community next to the sea. The house has a self-catering kitchen, garden, communal areas and several bedrooms and bathrooms. You would be sharing a room with at least one other person.

Food is not included in the price, however you can cook for yourself or eat out very cheaply in local restaurants.

Who is this suitable for?

This project is especially suited to those aged 17+ with a passion for diving and / or the marine world. It is particularly beneficial for those who are keen to study / are already studying marine biology or similar.
