Wendy Rainger
Without the Duke of Edinburgh award, I would not be the person I am today.
It came to me at a time in my life when I was lost. My father was not around and I was missing him dreadfully. It felt like I had no direction in my life. The Duke of Edinburgh Award gave me the opportunity to see and experience the world in a whole new way. Both the skills and knowledge I have gained, and my huge passion for the outdoors has stayed with me my whole life. I have hiked and camped all over Derbyshire and more recently I have camped on the North Yorkshire moors. In my late 30s I climbed Ben More and in my 40s I have visited Snowdonia once and the Scottish Highlands twice.
I am so grateful to have had these opportunities.
The great outdoors will always be my biggest passion in life!
