Myself and a lady called Pennyann started Rangers in our village and decided to run the DofE programme. We did our training and then started the programme. It has been amazing teaching the girls map reading, hiking skills, packing the rucksack etc. we have watched them grow from Bronze participants to very able Gold. They have made so many memories, have learned how strong and resilient they are and are better people for it. Our last Gold DofE expedition was canoeing and my daughter took part. She says it was one of the best things she has done in her life. I never got the chance to do DofE as a teenager and it gives me great pleasure to see my children taking part. The Duke of Edinburgh has left a wonderful legacy for younger generations to come and he will always be fondly remembered.
Our condolences to the family and Her Majesty the Queen.
