Thomas Floodgate
In 2015, I was able to follow all my family in taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award. As the youngest in my family, I had spent years hearing tales of collapsed tents, walking in the rain and volunteering in the community. Despite being rather worried about walking that far and being physically able to walk that distance, I signed up and enjoyed the whole scheme. From planning the route to volunteering in the school library, I thoroughly enjoyed every part of the bronze scheme. I have great memories of crouching down in Thetford Forrest amid thunder storms and laughing as cowes charged at us in a field. The walk not only gave me new friends, it gave me a love for nature and the climate that continues to this day. The experience I gained was so valuable and continues to challenge me in everyday life. The scheme proved that I was stronger and more able than I had ever thought before.
Thank you Prince Phillip for your tireless dedication to the young of this nation and those around the world. Your charisma challenged me and spurred me on to be who I am today. May your legacy be full of life.
Rest in peace.
