In February 1969 I was invited to Buckingham Palace to receive my Gold Award from the Duke of Edinburgh. Here I am driving my Morris 1000 out of the Palace gates after the ceremony. It was a real privilege to be permitted to park my car inside the Palace grounds. It was a day I shall never forget.
The award scheme gave me confidence. I went from being caned by my primary school headmistress for failing my 11+ (they didn’t tell you in those days what it was so I probably didn’t try) to becoming a Professor of iT Law and Public Policy in an academic career of 40 years.
