The death of Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh has brought back so many great memories of completing the bronze silver & gold D of E awards through school in NI during late 70’s / early 80’s (Whitehead Girls High School). The teacher (Mrs Williams) who facilitated the scheme was one of those great teachers both in the subject she taught & her enthusiasm with D of E. She was Welsh & probably why we went to Snowdonia to complete our gold expedition. First time to travel out of NI without family but a great challenge & experience.
I m about to retire early from social work shortly & being involved with children’s youth work as part of the service section of D of E was probably partly influential in me following social work as a career.
A great scheme to have been a part of many years ago with wonderful memories created & friendships made.
