Sarah Cruickshank
My parents met as DofE leaders in Edinburgh. I then participated in the DofE at school where I completed my bronze and silver awards.
When I left school I just had the residential to my gold award to complete. 5 years later I had graduated university and my first job was admin and comms officer at DofE Scotland.
I found a residential opportunity where I was truly going to gain experience from at a photography workshop.
Barry Fisher, the then CEO of DofE Scotland (and the best manager I could have asked for) presented me with my badge.
That summer, I received my Gold Award at a ceremony that I helped to organise.
If it wasn’t for the DofE, my parents wouldn’t have met, my career wouldn’t be where it is now and I wouldn’t be the person I am now due to how the award shaped me at that young age.
