Many years ago I achieved my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.
It took me out of my comfort zone and trying many new things. Volunteering, raising money for charity. 24 hour relays. Learning my love of music and jazz, learning how to play a few instruments. Over night hiking and kayaking expeditions. But the largest impact was the 10 days I spent on Spirit of New Zealand. This shaped my entire life! Passing a cadetship, becoming permanent Mate on the tall ship and 17 years later I'm still sailing the world as my career and very attached to the ocean. I would not be the person I am proud to be today had it not been for the Duke of Edinburgh and his award scheme.
Rip, thankyou for helping me push my limits and become the person I am today.
