Doing Duke of Edinburgh Award silver and gold at school totally shaped the rest of my life. The love of the outdoors, the joy of helping others, the courage to strive to achieve and a constant work ethic. Beyond all that it pointed me to teaching PE and Outdoor Education then to youth work. Throughout this time delivering DofE to young people and eventually being County DofE Manager for Essex, a dream job. I met HRH several times and had some memorable conversations with him. One about ironing and another about foolscap and quarto paper. Random! I still volunteer with DofE and with our local foodbank, so he is still shaping my life today. Thank you Sir. RiP.
