I am proud to say that I achieved the Gold award in May 1962. I well remember the feeling of pride and achievement and I know that the sense of self esteem that it gave me stayed with me throughout my life. In spite of huge walking boots that weighed more than me and ex-army kagoul kept neither wind nor rain, the expeditions gave me a lifelong passion for nature and the great outdoors.
