Philippa Willson-Rivers

I took part in the bronze DofE award scheme when I was about 14-15 through Secondary school.
For my Volunteering I started helping at a local social club for adults with special needs one evening a week. I enjoyed the experience and this led on to me working for over 30 years on and off with adults with special needs.
For the past 15 years I have been working as a part-time tutor teaching Dance and more recently Performing Arts with adults with special needs.
It has been such a rewarding and fun time and I have learnt so much from the students who attend my classes.

My daughter who is now 16years old also took part in the DofE bronze award over a year ago now.
The experience was a challenge aswell as fun for her and although neither of us have gone on to do the Silver award the experience of taking part in the bronze award scheme has been beneficial and I hope it helps shape my daughters future as it did mine.

So a big thanks to the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and all the staff and volunteers who have helped keep the scheme going for all these years.
Although he is not with us anymore it’s thanks to the Duke for setting the scheme up in the first place.

Kind regards
Philippa and family.
