Peter Weir

In 2017 I met the Duke of Edinburgh in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland when receiving my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. It was a wonderful experience and one that I will fondly remember for the rest of my life. The Duke was in fantastic form and was sharing jokes and stories throughout. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a valuable experience for young people, one that enhances many life skills and I completed my Gold DoE in Lake District with many good friends. As a PE teacher, I now aim to pass on many of the life skills I have accrued through the scheme and encourage many of my pupils to get involved in the DoE. The Duke of Edinburgh has left a legacy unparalleled and has championed many a young person, and I, amidst many others, am very thankful to him. RIP.
