I was fortunate to have gained the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards of the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards Scheme mostly through a scheme run by the Local Education Authority and was pleased to be able to take my Mum to the presentation at the Palace of Holyrood House in November 1975.
With other Gold Award holders I helped establish an independent DofE group at a local FE College. Later in my career I joined the police service as a volunteer Special Constable and I have now completed nineteen years’ service.
