Having completed my DofE Bronze Award in 1983, I soon learnt the benefits of getting involved, team work and resilience. I then went on in future years to support the Award in my job at Oldham Council. I became an employee of the Award in 2013 and then have both my daughters achieve their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards and my son Bronze and Silver Award. My girls were one of the last groups of participants to receive their Award from The Duke at St James's Palace in 2016. I have seen first hand the impact in my own children as well as the participants who take part within our schools and centres and could not feel prouder of the Award than now and that the legacy will live on for many years.
I feel very privileged to work for the DofE which really does make a difference to all involved both as a participant and as a Leader and for some such a life changing way and the positive impact it has to make our young people well rounded individuals who can make a difference in their lives.
