I discovered the Duke of Edinburgh award through my time in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC). I completed my Gold award with the help and support of some inspirational members of staff who encouraged me to go out of my comfort zone again and again. Growing up I was very nervous, afraid to do new activities or go anywhere on my own. Having the opportunity to do this award pushed me to explore some of the most incredible places this world has to offer from the beautiful Brecon Beacons to the sunny coast of Cyprus, learning leadership skills and building my confidence day by day.

Through this whole experience I have met so many inspiring people, friends that I am still in contact with nearly seven years later. These friends have all gone on to achieve incredible career moves, following their dreams and using all the skills we learnt as teenagers to enrich and fulfil their lives.

For my skills section I learnt life saving first aid which, at the time, I did not realise would provide me with invaluable experience and knowledge as I now come to the end of my second year as a Student Paramedic hoping to make a positive difference in peoples lives every day.

I was honoured to meet him at my presentation of awards and it is a day I will never forget. Without HRH Prince Philip setting up this life changing organisation, I would not have been able to build such a strong foundation for which I now am using to help and inspire others every day and for that I will be eternally grateful. Thank you to every single person that helped me to achieve this award and made it possible for me.
