The Summer of 1986 I completed both my Silver DoE and the 30th Anniversary 100 mile All Britain Walk. Come Autumn, I had just started university and was in halls of residence which meant I was hard to contact. Consequently I had two hours notice of attending a special Anniversary award presentation ceremony at Westminster Abbey! Luckily I was in central London so managed to get there on time, including a pit stop at my college to ask my professor if we could reschedule the planned tutorial that afternoon as “I have to go to meet the Duke of Edinburgh” - which he still says is the best excuse he ever had for a missed tutorial! ?
