I always wanted my children to participate in the DofE award as I understood how amazing this opportunity was for their development into adults and a work life.
What I never knew was the story of why and what influenced HRH Prince Phillip to started the award. I am just sad that I never knew his life story and what greatness he possessed as a human being . He was so ahead of his times that issue he talked about and dealt with 50 years ago is only recognised now from habitat protection to interfaith cohesion and so much more. The more I learn about HRH the more proud I feel to be a British citizen and part of the commonwealth as I am of Indian heritage and was born in South Africa.
My son us 13 years old and is looking forward to starting his Bronze. My daughter is 16 and is currently doing her Silver award. She has already gained so much confidence, fun and adventure from participating in the Award.
She wants to pursue a career in Finance and Wealth Management and has also just done a Virtual Work Experience with St James Place which she would probably never have been able to do without being part of the DofE.
My sincere gratitude to HRH Prince Phillip for starting this amazing award and to everyone who now keeps it running. It has made a positive difference in what has been a very difficult time this last year.
Thank you to the Duke of Edinburgh!
May you rest in peace.
