Every moment towards DofE was a happy moment, it was so exciting to work towards my bronze and now my silver. The expedition was unlike anything I had done before and even though at the end we were all in so much pain and fell at the foot of the train station, it remains one of my best memories. I remember on the second day we were so tired when we got to the top of a hill and had to come down the other side that my friend and I took of our bags and rolled them down the hill full of horse poo and brambles then slid down afterwards it was perhaps one of the funniest moments watching 4 girls slip down a rather steep hill. Later there was another hill to get to our campsite and we were singing Bon Jovi in order to keep spirit up and try and race a woman on a horse on a parallel path rather unsuccessfully. We got lost a lot less than expected in the blistering heat but even when we went round in circles it was still with a smile on our faces, perhaps forced but there is something so exciting about being out in the wild together with your friends trying to navigate through the unknown. We befriended several horses dogs and even some snakes (from a very very safe distance...which required running away) . The sights were so beautiful that even though the weight of our rucksacks dug into our shoulders, back and hips we all took that extra second to admire the world around us. Then back at the camp we had a rolling worm race in our sleeping bags, trying to relieve ourselves of the tension in our body and laughing at our suffering for what is really a short walk that is dragged out by the breaks, snacks and slow speed. It was and is an amazing experience that I am so happy to have been and still be a part of.
