I loved doing the Award scheme on account of the diverse activities, from the expeditions in Sussex and Dartmoor, first aid, volunteer service in the community, to hobbies and physical challenges. I ended up being a better person when starting on my journey into life.

On the selfish side I thought there was no other way I would ever get to Buckingham Palace.

The picture attached is of my mother and I at the Palace in May 1982. She had wanted to see the Queen and Prince Philip when they passed through Bombay in 1961 but wasn't able to as she was about to give birth to my sister and I. It only seemed fair to take Mum to see him this time.

We have all been blessed to have had such a hard working and colourful character, who has given his all for his family and country. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. He is a legend.
