Matthew Smeeton

I completed my Bronze DofE award activities when I was 14 years old, receiving the award virtually at 15, and I remember it all incredibly fondly to this day. It was an absolutely wonderful experience to make new friends and undertake an adventure with them. The expedition made me feel like a valuable part of a team and I gained great satisfaction in supporting my friends and chatting with them around the campfire. The physical, skills, and volunteering sections of the programme were also greatly rewarding and certainly helped make me who I am today and my worldview has been permanently enhanced by the Duke’s inspiring philosophy of ambition, adventure, and service to society. I am exceptionally grateful to the DofE Award Scheme and furthermore to the marvellous man who made it possible: HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. I would highly recommend the scheme to all young people, whatever their interests and background.
