My mother in law was the International Adviser for Girl Guides doing their DofE. Also called Margaret Broome she was involved in running the pilot scheme for DofE in Bristol in the 1950's.

I gained my Gold DofE in 1968 as A Ranger, my two younger sister's also gained their Gold awards some years later (1977 I think). Ruth Allen through Scouts (she was a Club leader)and Jane Allen through her job at BT, although she was also a Guider at the time.
