I completed my Gold expedition in October 2008 in the Lake District. It was, at the time, one of the worst flood and storm seasons the Lake District had seen. We ploughed on through snow, rain, hail, wind and shortening day light. It was only when we completed the last day we realised how bad it had been. Un be knownst to us Mountain rescue and emergency services had been rescuing and airlifting walkers from mountains all weekend.
At that point it became clear what we had achieved and how resilient we had been both as individuals and a team. It's the resilience, fortitude and mindset I gained through this, and the many other tasks and activities I completed through Bronze, Silver and Gold, that have helped me overcome other personal and career challenges and helped forge me as a person. The passing of The Duke has made me think how I can give something back and I am now considering taking up the DofE challenge to raise money
