Luke Simmons

I am autistic and in 2019 at the age of 24 I achieved my gold award.
I feel very proud that I was given the opportunity to experience the things I did on my journey to the gold award. I did things I never thought I would be able to with my disability.
I learned how to play golf and from that took up the sport, I was given the opportunity to be an official matchday photographer at West Bromwich Albion and sit pitch side, which took me out of my comfort zone. This lead to me being invited to take photos at the Albion foundations football sessions and from that I took an interest in playing football and now go to their football training sessions for young people with disabilities, something I never thought I would do.
I completed my residential on a 80 year old working barge travelling along the canals, opening and closing locks, steering the barge, cooking for ourselves and working as a team, we stopped off at the Black Country Living Museum and spent the day volunteering, cleaning the double decker buses they use there. Thank you for the opportunity and the chance for me to achieve and do what I did.

Thinking of the Royal Family at this sad time.
