I have worked for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award for 7 years now – I am the DofE Manager for Cumbria County Council. One of the highlights of my role has been the trips I have made to Gold Awards Ceremonies – most notably Holyrood in 2017. On this occasion I was a marshal for a group of young people from Cumbria – it was also HRH Prince Philips final ceremony in Scotland. As we waited for the Duke to come to our group I warned my cohort that he may ask them some questions and to have some anecdotes prepared. To my surprise it was me he spoke to! I will always remember that moment and how special he made me feel. He had a lovely manner about him and was genuinely interested in what you had to say. What a great loss for us all.
