I was one of the early recipients of the Gold Award in 1971. To complete the award I particularly recall selling flowers on the steps of the hospital in which I was training as a nurse in Central London, a sailing trip in wind, rain and fog across to the Netherlands, and a week of supporting four little boys at a Children’s home. The Duke himself presented us with our award at Buckingham Palace.
