During our silver DofE expedition, it was already dark when we got to the campsite one day after a day of very windy and wet conditions. I remember huddling in my sleeping bag in the slightly leaking tent with my friend Charlotte in the middle of the night, trying desperately to keep warm and relatively dry although everything was already soaked through. It was then that I decided to bring out a bag of mini marshmallows that I’d packed very randomly on the morning of the expedition. We spent the next hour stress-eating marshmallows and laughing together, sharing inside jokes and making light of the situation while the wind continued to rage around us. And while we never managed to get fully dry, we went to sleep feeling happy, full of sugar, and like we’d got to know each other on a completely new level. The next morning, the whole campsite was woken up by a pair of peacocks at 5am, but that’s another story... !
