I started my DofE journey very reluctantly. As a 14 year old I couldn't imagine anything fun about camping or walking. But after some strong persuasion from my parents and leader and the realisation that I was already undertaking three out of fours sections anyway, I embarked on a life changing adventure.
At 18 I gave birth to my first daughter Emilie and I credit my achievement for why many people never viewed me as a stereo typical teenage mum. Also I believe the resilience I gained helped fuel my determination to never let being a young mum hold me back, and I have had an amazing life. It also led me to a job I love working as an Operation Officer for DofE. For that, I will always be thankful for DofE and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
Emilie's first visit to London was when she was just 5 months old when I received my Gold Award. Emilie is now a Bronze Award holder and I hope my youngest daughter follows in our footsteps.
