I cannot really explain in words how much gratitude I have for the Duke of Edinburgh and his Award. The way it shaped my attitudes, my personality, and developed some incredible ethics and principles within me as a teenager is immeasurably profound. The sense of pride I have, even still, in my achieving my Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards is surpassed only by the deeply treasured memory I have of meeting Prince Philip at St James’ Palace when I received my Gold Award. The Duke and his Award have left a lasting impression on me and will always be with me. Comfort is brought to me in knowing that the massive impact he had on so many lives will be held dearly and live on long beyond his sad departure.
