I received my Gold Award, from Prince Philip, in Canada as a Pathfinder and then young Girl Guide Leader (many years ago now)! It was a very memorable award ceremony and I vividly recall how interested the Duke of Edinburgh asked about my experience, the new skills I had learned, and the service that I undertook. The programme helped shape my future life as a leader, both at work and in the community. My participation, as a young girl, also greatly influenced my son, who has worked through Bronze and Silver awards, and who is in the final stages of completing his Gold Award! He is also a DoE Ambassador. I will always remain a very proud DoE Gold award recipient and a very proud parent of a DoE Award holder and, active participant and ambassador for the DoE. It’s a wonderful programme for young adults and it’s value should never be underestimated!
