HRH Prince Philip was a great patron of the Air Cadets for a long time, and we all did his Award Scheme.
I was lucky enough to meet Prince Philip in 2002 for my Duke of Edinburgh Scheme Gold Award at a ceremony at St James’ Palace in London.
It was fabulous to meet him in real life, and he made the effort to speak to each small group at the ceremony.
He asked our group a question about what we’d done for our residential section, and everyone froze with fear and shyness - so I thought go for it, I’ll talk to you!
So we had a little chat about my camp in Gibraltar, and he was very lovely.
An absolute gentleman, a loyal supporter of youth groups and the military and our beloved Queen - and a devastating loss to our country.
He will be sorely missed ️
