On a cold and blustery day a group of 8 young teenagers including myself were dropped off in what seemed to be the middle of nowhere, armed with a rucksack, maps and compass, as well as the ever present Kendall Mint cake to fortify us. Our aim was to survive and meet our guide after a days hike. During this time it started to snow but we trudged on. It taught us to work together, bond in a way that we wouldn't of done in a classroom and explore our own resilience. We learnt to keep each other going, how to be a team and our communication skills improved. I can still visualize us on the mountains in Wales even now at age 49 and know that it was an experience that will forever remain in my memory. I now live and work in America as a recreational therapist and find myself teaching the skills I learnt to others.
