Karen Fulton

I was fortunate to participate in the scheme through a variety of organisations. I completed my DofE through 1769 Thurso Squadron Air Training Corps and undertook my Expedition with fellow cadets from the Squadron.

I was fortunate enough to spend 3 months in Australia with Raleigh International (Operation Raleigh) as my residential project.

I became a Cub Scout Leader as part of my service section. I learnt to drive a car and undertake basic car maintenance as my skill (suck, push, bang, blow - who needs the AA!)

And I completed my physical while studying Community Education at Jordanhill College.

I collected my Gold Award at Holyrood Palace as an adult volunteer in Sea Cadets and remain a volunteer to this day.

I can safely say that the direction of my career was influenced by my involvement with the Dofe and other Youth Organisations as I passed on to others what I had gained as a volunteer and DofE leader.

I was fortunate enough to achieve a Queens Guide Award, Queens Scout Award and Gold DofE. I think I gained much more from my involvement and achievement in the DofE.

One advantage in moving house recently is I happened to find a box with certificates from a long time ago.

A life well lived and a strong legacy to continue.
