I was introduced to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme at Secondary school at the age of 13. As a shy, sensitive girl and with little self -belief, I grew into a quietly confident young woman. I made friends for life and still get much enjoyment from walking and the outdoors today.
I went on to become a Home Economics teacher and taught new cooking skills to D of E students over the years. I saw young people blossom just like me...it was truly wonderful.
I believe education is about the whole person. The D of E Award programme helps to make well-rounded young people with so much to offer society. The Duke of Edinburgh leaves a very special legacy.
