John Reid

My own encounter with Prince Philip. In June 1975 I attended Buckingham Palace to receive my Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award. I attended in my RAF Uniform having just finished my RAF Police training although I had completed my DofE with Vickers Shipbuilders prior to joining the RAF. The Duke approached our Group and started to talk to me ( I was the only one in uniform). He enquired as to what "branch" of the RAF I was in and when I told him I had just completed my RAF Police Course he laughed and asked where I was being posted to,when I replied "RAF Machrihanish, by Campbeltown", he again laughed saying he knew it as he sailed past it on Britannia. Happy memories.
