Meeting the Prince to receive my gold award was an experience I will never forget. I remember thinking how small he appeared against my expectation. I also remember how big his personality was. He expressed genuine interest in people’s experiences with their award.

So much was learnt through my experience. I developed a love of walking and exploring. Exercise brought me great enjoyment. I learnt new skills and realised some weren’t really for me! I made lifelong friends.

I strongly believe my participation in the scheme, as an award hold at all 3 levels, as an Open Award Centre leader, and as the South West Region Gold Award Representative at National Council, has shaped who I am today. It gave me a confidence I never had. It gave me a belief I could achieve whatever I wanted.
