I started DofE through scouting. It was a really fun way of spending time. My service was to help at the local camp site, which I am still connected with to this day (10+ yrs later). My Gold Award I did outside of explorers and required meeting new people and teaming up with people I'd never known before, doing a residential all on my lonesom and getting me into a whole new sport. Since, I've been abroad on my own and started a business. Without doing that Gold Award I wouldn't be nearly as confident as I am and I am forever grateful to the award and the people that helped me through it. I'm quietly confident that having this award has set me apart from people on my CV too, an added bonus!
