My son Alex, at age 14, was badly injured during a football game in autumn 2018 which resulted in a severe kidney laceration, a stay in hospital, and missing a lot of school. His injury took a long time to recover from and during this time he was successful in gaining a place at school on the DofE award scheme. It was touch and go whether he would be able to do even the practice expedition. However, when the time came he was able to do it and by doing this it helped him regain some of his lost confidence and self belief. Thanks to participating in and completing his Bronze award I feel Alex grew as a person, gaining resilience and responsibility and I am very grateful as a parent for this.
