I completed my bronze, silver and gold back in the 1990’s, based in Pocklington, East Yorkshire. The silver was spent doing conservation work at Studley Royal Park and I met Prince Edward on our final day. The Awards have given me a life long love of hiking/camping and the great outdoors, whilst also contributing to our local community by volunteering at a swimming club for disabled children, and tidying our local cemetery.
I was extremely proud to receive my Gold award from The Duke of Edinburgh, at St James’s Palace, in 1990.
Now my 15 year old son is doing his Silver award and has spent the past 3 days practicing for their expedition in and around Stamford school in Lincolnshire.
At every interview I’ve ever attended I have always been asked about my D of E awards....and sometimes not my academic qualifications!!! A truly fantastic award scheme that encourages independence, enthusiasm and diversity...the Duke will live on through the Awards!!
