Jane Pittock
I started my DofE journey whilst a venture scout at the age of 16 years old. Through taking part in the DofE award scheme I managed to accomplish more than I thought possible.
As part of my DofE journey I took a volunteering role with the Scout Association, which empowered me to follow my love of helping others, which ultimately lead to me taking up a leadership role within scouting at the age of 18.
My DofE journey helped to me to form new friendships, acquire problem solving skills, ability to plan, adapt to changes, successfully work within a team. Along with the confidence, self belief, willingness to try new challenges whilst pushing my own boundaries.
I am proud to say that I successfully achieved my silver and gold DofE awards. This culminated in me going to a national celebration at St James Palace, for me to receive my Gold Award. This is an experience I will never forget, it was a fantastic day and a chance of a life time.
My passion for helping others through scouting and DofE continued after me completing my Gold. I took on the roles of scout county DofE advisor, assessor, supervisor and leader within DofE. I spend most if not all my weekends scouting or on DofE expeditions. DofE along with scouting is a major part of my life and will always be so. I thoroughly enjoy being to pass on my skills and passion for DofE and watching the participants grow as they progress through the awards. I took pride in being able to help facilitate the next generation to be able to enjoy and receive the benefits that DofE provided for me.
My second most proudest moment within the DofE scheme was being able to see my own daughter also gained her gold DofE award. Which was only slightly eclipsed by being able to as an explorer leader see a young man who had so many challenges and barriers to cross but through support and sheer determination on his behalf finally achieve his gold DofE Award last year.
