Jacqueline Hodge (nee Wedge)
I was a pioneer for girls being involved in the scheme through the YWCA in Plymouth Devon.
I had the excitement of meeting The Duke of Edinburgh twice. Once at Devonport High School in 1961 where I demonstrated Mothercare activities for him. I achieved the Bronze and Silver Awards before meeting him at Buckingham Palace to receive my Gold award.
The Gold Adventure section was a challenge- a 60 mile hike across Dartmoor. We were trained by Royal Marines on how to cross a bog! Due to lack of visibility we had to be rescued and taken to Dartmoor prison!
I am proud of my achievement and the friends I have kept from these experiences. Resilience gained has helped me to work with young people throughout my career of teaching.
