I took part in the DofE award around 25 years ago and the memories still live strong with me. One of the areas I got involved with was helping out at a youth club for young adults with mental and physical disabilities. To a near 16 year old at the time it was something different and not something I was to sure I wanted to do. I loved it. I ended up stopping to help for a few years. It left a lasting impression. Now in my adult life I volunteer as a Scout leader and a community Rugby Coach. The reward I felt as a 16 year old helping out in a community based project is somthing I have always looked for and wanted to do later in life. I am lucky to be in that position now. I belive being exposed to new experiences at such a young age changed my outlook and is what drove me to look to do something similar now.
