I completed my gold award over 50 years ago & still have the record book & log of my final expedition - hand written with hand drawn maps & not a single photo taken (a camera would have added too much weight to my pack!) Reading it this morning brought back memories of the Youth hostel with no running water and cooking 'Vesta' curry as well as the hobbies it involved me with. I'm not sure what today's participants would think of the design for living topic of 'What to wear & when to wear it' but this along with the other things we joined in with were very relevant to the time.
The scheme certainly helped me develop confidence & self reliance, something I am sure it continues to do.
