My fondest childhood memories are from my time completing my bronze and silver D of E award. I was an awkward, shy child and the scheme was so helpful in building my confidence. We had great fun learning how to map read and camping out ‘in the wild’. We made friends volunteering at a college for the disabled, we learned how to canoe, about childcare and first aid. I valued the scheme so much that I found a place for my children to also participate. It’s been difficult during the pandemic, however they only have their expedition to complete to have passed their bronze. I wish I had completed my gold and got to meet the Duke in person. I would have liked to thank him. My thoughts are with the Queen and the family at this sad time x
