Harvey Fruish
I completed my Gold award when I was 16 years of age. Along with my twin brother Graham we both completed the bronze and silver award schemes prior to the gold in successive years. We did it through our school. We both were the first people to have brass banding as our hobbies for the gold award.
We both went on to work in service industry Graham in the R.A.F. And me in the fire service after his time in the RAF he joined me in the Fire Service we both received the Long Service and good conduct medals.
I believe doing the scheme we both felt that we had achieved so much from it that it influenced our paths in life.
On the 13th of March 2013 we both were presented to HRH again in St. James Palace on the celebration of our 50th year of obtaining our Cerificates at Buckingham Palace.
Although it has been many years since I started the bronze scheme I can honestly say that what we were taught and what we gained in character was immense and I am still proud of our achievements today. I’m sorry I cannot recall specifics but I do look back at my record book, in the back of which are the signature of my school teachers at Bective Secondary Modern school.
I believe that theses books are no longer used. What a shame as I can look back and remember my journey from Bronze to Gold. Today and tomorrow.
