Gillian Thomson
Nearly 50 years after completing my Bronze and Silver awards, I am still an expert on fire safety! I learned a lot from attending a DofE course at Thornton Fire Station.
My father introduced our church youth group to the DofE Award and many of us were enthusiastic participants.
One abiding memory is of my Silver Expedition. No energy bars ot gels in those dsys. Three of us crossing the Lomond Hills armed with a camping stove, an old pot, a tin of mince, a tin of potatoes and a tin of peas.
The map reading skills I learned for the expedition have stayed with me. My cooking skills have improved!
